I'm Anne, noshots@. I've been keeping hookbills since 1986. Started with budgies but got hooked on parrots. I try to feed my birds the best diet I can, and am still learning about holistic treatments. I use homeopathy for my kids but haven't yet done so for my birds. I have 6 parrots: Jitterbug, scarlet macaw, 7 (male); Tango, BFA, 21 (male); Merlin, mealy amazon, 15 (male); Napoleon, CAG, 16 (female); Timmy, TAG, 13 (?); Louie, Orange Chin parakeet, 7 (male); Also, 2 dogs, 2 lizards, and 2 small children.

blday50@ I'm Bonnie in Florida-mother to 7 human kids ( his, hers and ours- 6 have flown the coop), 10 FIDS-ranging in size from a U2 to zebra finches, 6 horses and 3 dogs. I have been involved with horse and Great Dane rescue privately for many years and have recently been rescuring the birds. I became interested in Holistic medicine several years ago while researching methods to treat horses with herbs Since adopting a feather chewing U2 I have learned how to help him by using natural treatments.

I am learning allot through this list and am enjoying it

Bonnie in FL
Cleo - Quaker, Toby - BCC, Sweet Pea - 1/2 Moon Conure.Rocky - DYHA, Sinbad - U2, Belle - TAG, Mulan-patagonian, Spike and Pearl-cockatiels, Anthony, Cleopatra and kids- zebra finches

Bobbett .. ERABobbett@
My household has had birds since I was a little girl (parakeets), and I formally adopted my first while in college; I've been hooked ever since. Current inventory is 22 budgies (some English). I joined the list to find alternate ways of treating illness and conditions not
helped by allopathic medicine. Since encompassing this type of thinking and life-style for my birds, I've extended it to my cats and myself. And I'm still learning. Bobbett

I have been keeping parrots since 1986. I am a professional bird trainer and have been doing educational parrots/pirate shows throughout the country but mostly in the Pacific Northwest since about 1989. I also am the co-owner and developer of the 100% Organic Foundation Formula Pellets and 100% Organic Dynamo Line of Sproutable Seed Mixes. I believe strongly in better health in our parrots through more natural foods and reduced stress through proper training.

Hi there, I'm Sherri carp@ and I have 2 pet birds that are spoiled rotten. I have been studying aromatherapy for about 8 years which also got me interested in herbs. I had never thought of using them on my birds because of fear of the unknown and how to dose birds until I found this list. It has opened up new modalities to me and new ways of thinking. I'm looking forward to learning much, much more. Sherri

Christine@.. I am the Mum to 4 birds :- Freddie a 4 year old Military Macaw; Jazz a 3 year old Scarlet Macaw; Caesar a 9 year old African Grey - who is unfortunately a feather lucker; Cindy a 21 1/2 year old Cockatiel. You can meet my birds in the first album link I have added here Christine

'm Debby and I have several African Congo Greys, that were dropped off at my house. I think, people thought, that because I had 4 of them, when they no longer want the bird, they just stuff it into the cage, on my front porch! LOL But seriously, this group has helped, with the plucking situation. Some get feathers back, some don't. I cannot find them homes, till I have conquered the plucking situation. Then, when they get their feathers, I can't part with them. I bet I am the only person, in American, with that many plucked greys! If any body would like to see POOR "Barney" email me!
Thanks Debby

Hi! Welcome!!! I'm Debra.....debrahubbard@ I have 2 canaries, a jenday conure, a peach-faced lovebird, a Goffin's cockatoo, and a blue & gold macaw. I joined this list in the desperate hope of finding some sort of cure for my featherpicking cockatoo after having
spent $100's of dollars at the vet on all the tests we could think of to find that nothing was wrong. I have learned much about the proper diet & maintaining my birds good health with herbs/spices. I was completely ignorant of holistic application before I joined this
group. I am still trying to find the right combination for my cockatoo and learning more everyday to do the best I can for my flock.

Debra & the Critters

Debra.. naturechst@ I have been keeping and breeding parrots since 1985 and hope to learn how to prevent health problems and how to treat my birds' existing health concerns more naturally.

Deeann_Boydston@ Hi I'm the other Dee/ Dee Boydston. I became interested in birds very young . My family rehabbed and rescued backyard birds and then started working with raptors in the mid 70's. We are Native American and have always been into wholistic, herbal, natural, and behavioral treatments and remedies. I met my first parrot in 1981 and fell in love. I have been rescuing and rehabbing them since. There are 12 permanent members of my flock ( all rescues but 1) but there have been as many as 34 in my home at once.
My family flock is as follows :
Missy - Parrotlet; Dutch- Blue Black Masked Lovebird; Bo-Peach Headed Conure; Sugar- Umbrella Too (used to be a plucker now fully feathered); Moses- TAG; Passion-Eclectus (Vos) plucker; Slacker- CAG (used to be a plucker now full feathered); Lily- Hybrid Macaw (she does not have many feathers and has a very crooked beak);
Solomon- Military Macaw; Zach- B&G Macaw; Logan- Orange Winged Amazon; Jeremiah-Indian Ringneck.

Right now Annabelle ( goffin too) is the only one in rehab with me. I have placed 12 in permanent homes in the last 2 months. Hopefully Annabelle will be going to her new home in a week. We have already done interviews and visits.Annabelle loves her new Mom and will be transitioning next week. Dee B.

Hi ! My names Denise but everyone calls me Dee. mules10987654321@. I have had birds all my life and couldn't live with out them. I have one Senegal, two English Budgies, and numerous finches. One mule, one, one eyed horse, a Black Lab, a Jack Russell and one dog that I call a Rat Russell ( half jack /half rat terrier). Oh yes! and one wonderful son who is in the US Navy! I joined this list to learn about herbs and there uses in healing, for my birds and for me......DEE

Hi there, Diana here, jabber@.. I live in central Georgia and havehad birds since I was a little girl which was sometime back in the 50's.Until I joined the HolisticBird group, I had no idea herbs could be used to heal our companion birds. I have learned a lot here and have a LOT more to learn.

My flock: B&G Macaw, Senegal, Sun Conure, Quaker, Budgie and 7 Cockatiels. Other pets include a dog, a green Iguana, 2 turtles and a tarantula spider. Although the birds on the pond aren't really pets, I do feed them and if one of them was sick I would get help if I could catch the sick or injured bird. They include: 7 ducks of various species, 4 geese that I don't know the species, about 70 Canadian geese, a Blue Heron and many different species of other water and wading birds plus owls that are wild too. See, I'll claim anything as mine. LOL

Hi all, Diane4Birds...dgsteel@ I've been caring for birds since 1997 when I just had to bring several home from the pet store where I worked. My U2, Purdy Burdy, spent most of his day in "time out" in the dimly lit back room due to his chewing and screaming. Needless to say I didn't work there very long. My knowledge about diet and preventive care is improving daily due to this list. A big Thanks to all
My flock:
Purdy Burdy-U2 - 4 1/2 yrs. old; Harley-U2 - 6 yrs. old -adopted-no longer wanted due to new baby; Tucker G2 - 6 yrs. old -adopted-no longer wanted due to new baby; Chickpea-Meyer's- 4 1/2 yrs. old; Hank-tiel - 4 yrs. old; Tiny Tim-tiel with a small handicap- 4 yrs. old; 3 canaries 1-4 yrs. old; 1 dove - 4 yrs. old; and many other pets including fish, dogs, cats, bunnies, chickens, turkeys, and goats :)

Dottie......ibdottie@ .....hi, i have four birdy kids...and i joined the list to learn more ways to keep them healthy...they are as follows:
Charlie Bird - Mexican Double yellowhead amazon, 25 years, male;
Paco - Blue fronted amazon, 18 years, not sexed; Sydney - Severe Macaw, 15 years, female...we thought she was a he till she laid her first egg; Maggie - Yellow fronted amazon, Old...we rescued her and have no idea about her back ground....not sexed but is a real sweetheart....Everyone talks except Maggie.....We also have two outside kitties that
adopted us...i wish they could come in but it wouldn't be fair for the
birds or the cats.... :-(

elementalclay@.. Roxanne from Minnesota here. I have treated my family and pets holistically for 25 years but have only had birds about 13. I started with a pair of doves (how old do doves get?) and went on to birds with special needs. They find me I don't find them. I presently have a former plucker M2, a U2 that was going to be put down because she was mean (not true) a plucking feisty quaker that bites me when I am on the phone (does it hurt his ears?) Three lovebirds. a tiel and the doves.

Featherbutts@.. I have had birds since I was 7 yrs. old. I got my first large parrot in my twenties. My grandmother used holistics, but stupid me did not pay much attention to her teachings. I was very happy when I saw a list all about holistics for birds. I have several types of birds, including Toos, macaws, and quite a few small species. JJ

Hello, My name is Gail, gail.naylor@.. I'm relatively new to the holistic bird list and to parrots but not to birds in general. Iworked in the wildlife field, in particular with raptors, for 15 years.I've shared my life with parrots since 1996: Meggie, (very sweet) Meyers; Stellaluna (Black-headed Caique); Fast Eddie (aka Pigpen) (White-bellied Caique); Carmen (White-bellied Caique); Gabby (Eclectus); Phoebe (Rose-breasted Cockatoo). This list was recommended to me by Pam Clark and since I believe the best way to prevent disease is to have a healthy immune system I felt my birds (as well as myself) would benefit from being a member. I was
right!

Hi, I'm Georgene / angelcake7@. I live in the Hudson Valley of NY in horse country. I am an animal lover since birth.parrot owner since 1979. You'd think I'd know more about how to raise my Goffins Cockatoo Otis :o). I joined the group to learn better therapies and alternative methods for my little plucker. In a nutshell, I am also the mother of 2 amazing children, the sweetest Shit Tzu and a spunky 16 yo 3 legged Manx cat. I'm married to the greatest guy for 25 years -- we still dream of adding 2 llama's to complete our family someday. Oh, and I'm a jewelry designer with my own online business called Heartbeat Designs.

Georgia Stange, 've been breeding birds for about 20 years. Can hardly believe it has
been that long. I have caiques, which I adore, redbelly parrots, greatbilled parrots, orange wings and parrotlets. I only have one pairof OW and the hen was my first parrot. She is really special to me. Afriend ordered a bunch of them in. When mine got sick with who knows what-plugged sinus- I told the friend he had better watch the others. I saved my hen, and he lost all he had plus his pet birds. Parrotlets are the only breeding pairs -other than the OW breeders-, and I haven't set them up for a few years.

For pets all we have is a Military, which we've had for 12 years, a 5 yr
old redbelly hen and a going on 2yr old parrotlet.

gloria.. globird@ I raised parrots since 1989 and have been practicing natural health since the middle 1990's. I started this list to share what I know and learn what other listmembers will teach me.

Gloria Nichols ... gloria_nichols@. I have lived with a
6-year old Red-Lored Amazon named Gloria and a 5-year old grey tabby cat named Nikki since 1997. We make our home in Prince Edward Island, Canada. I have always been an avid animal lover and owner. Since joining this list in the Spring of 2001, I have learned more specific information about nutrition for my fids and me than from any other source. I'm sure you will enjoy this list, too!

hi.I am Gudrun.. gudrun@. I started learning about the connection nutrition, herbs and health in the 80's. about 94 I began applying it to parrots and my other pets. as more as I learn as more I know how little I know. I am on this list to be in contact with people that I feel are health-wise on the same path as I am.

Hi, I'm Janice-- jamabudu@. I have owned parrots for about 13 years. Maya, RLA, is at least 13 years old (probably more like 17), a wild-caught who absolutely adores my DH and tries to remove some of my fingers on a regular basis--screams, too. Rio, CAG, is 9 years old, the light of my life, and a mild plucker (maybe coming out of it right now). Raspberry, MM, is 6 years old, allergic to peanuts and something else (plucks when exposed), and an absolute clown. The last two (both rescues) are why I'm on the Holistic list. I'm trying to alleviate whatever environmental stressors I can while implementing good holistic strategies to improve their lives. I'm learning--I know very little. Janice

Kim ... IITweets@ Hopelessly devoted to the health and care of my fids. Xena (B&G), Merlin (BFA), Gerdy (Quaker), and Angus (Senegal).

nureyev111@ Hello all,
I'm 25, live in (extreme) southern NJ. I work nights. My flock consists of Rosa, female BE2 (2/99), Finny, male Sun Conure (5/98), Marnin, male Sun Conure (10/2000) , and Carmen & Ike, pair of whiteface lutino tiels. We also have 7 pigeons who live in a pen outside. three of which I hand raised from abandoned squabs, the rest are their offspring.

I am very interested in holistic methods. When Finny was very, very sick a couple years ago, herbs and probiotics helped save his life.

Suzanne.....recnlof@. I have a Peach Fronted Conure, an African Grey and a Severe Macaw. We have been sharing our home with parrots since the early 90's. I joined the list to learn more about alternative methods of bolstering my severe's compromised immune system and am a novice to holistic methods.

use alternative medicine for basic illnesses at home for us humans, and have used Avian Medicine Chest products for a couple of years, but am now even more open to new ideas for keeping vet bills down and my birds. We have 3 parrots, and I am a breeder of gouldian finches, and have a set of canaries. My red belly parrot battles respiratory problems every day, and conventional treatments have never cured her. I do not know if herbs will, but I have seen a change for the better since I started.

I got my first bird as a gift in 1999. Once I got over the initial surprise upon learning that seeds/pellets and water would not be a sufficient diet to keep my new baby healthy and happy, I went searching for nutritional guidance. I've since added two more birds to my flock, as well as a wealth of information gleaned from the helpful people on the Holistic list.

Pam...clark.exotics@. I work as an avian behavior consultant and write the behavior column for the Holistic Bird Newsletter. My interest in holistic health dates back to 1986.

everyone..
I live in UK with my family and "fids" SidM2 an adopted moderate feather picker..Sunshine LSC2, severe feather picker, newly adopted..Smokey CAG, class clown, Joeyboy, Tikka and Korma the tiels and a pair of aviary amazons Rocky and Ginger. don't know much about holistic medicine but am willing to learn and contribute what I can. I am hoping for a better way of caring for and treating my birds than using scaled down human drugs Regards Pam H

Pat - roradora@ I got my first fid a little over 5 years ago. Between the vet I was using and my own ignorance, a lot of mistakes were made with him, which have definitely jeopardized his long term health. I've been a massage therapist for over 15 years, and into natural remedies at least that long, and felt it would be beneficial to be able to apply them to my flock. Gotten lots of great info here!

Hi Everyone
I am Pat Baker, parrotltd@, and I have 3 cockatoos, 3 macaws, a grey and an amazon. I joined this list to more fully understand the use of holistic medicine for my feathered friends and myself. I have learned a lot in the short time I have been on this list and I believe that knowledge is power and the more I know in case one of my birds gets ill, the better equipped I will be to deal with it. Also, I wanted to learn more about the use of preventative medication. Pat

. It's Renee in Texas. I have raised lovebirds in the past and now have one lovebird and one African Grey that I hand fed. He's 10 now. So is the lovebird, as she was from the last batch I raised. I gave up raising the lovebirds so I could spend more time with my Grey. He's something else!!

Hi, Im Sandy, sebirdlady@ I have 23 birds, 1 CAG, 1 SUN, 11 Adult tiels, 2 babies, 8 finches. I have had birds since 1990. I have a special tiel her name is LC she was burned in boiling water, and never taken to the vet, till we rescued her. She is doing great now, but will never perch ever again.

Hi, I'm Sandy (prettybird44@) and I've had birds since 1981. I live in Wisconsin, and have 4 birds - an african grey, a male vos eclectus, a senegal, and a lovebird. I have always been interested in natural health for both my family and my pets. I have found this list very helpful as far as what is safe to use with birds.

Sharbent@.. Hi group, My name is Sharon and I live in Memphis, Tn. I have had birds since I was a child, buggies, Tiels, Mexican Redhead (not so nice) Blue and Gold McCaw whom I really miss and now I own a 3 year old Grey, very smart very tame and very talkative, but is a feather plucker, she is wearing an Ecollar much to my dismay. I also have a Tiel by the name of Groucho which I have had no luck in taming, she sits at the bottom of the cage and sways, lays lots of eggs. I have learned much from this lift and from special friends I have met from this list. Sharon

teresa@.. Hello my name is Teresa. I am very new to this list. I have believed in natural products, herbs, good nutrition and alternative medicine for quite some time. I have had parrots for 3 years. Therefore, want to learn all I can to help them too.

tkoenig@ Hi, my name in Tina. I live in Calgary, Alberta. I have two lovebirds who I adore and are currently sitting on two eggs!! I have had my lovies for about a year now and I'm always looking for better and healthier ways to care for them. Since I am so new to birds, I usually don't have a lot of knowledge to post, but I learn something new from this list daily!! Thanks

shinayne@ Hello,
My name is Taevia. I live in Kentucky with my 4 birds. A Pacific Parrotlet, a Severe Macaw, a Blue Crown Conure, and a Congo African Grey. I have been around birds most of my life, just love them so much!I'm keenly interested in preventatives since at this point I have 4
healthy babies and want to keep it that way. I don't believe in the'glass bubble' treatment so I do my best to keep them healthy through diet and such. I've been married to a fellow bird lover, he still loves dogs more though ;), for 4 years now. That about sums it up!
