Eclectus diagnosed with PBFD

Hi,
My baby boy has been diagnosed with PBFD. He is now starting to show
symptoms ie: loose feathers.
Can anyone please help with natural remedies, I have heard of birds
being cured with holistic medicine.

B. Veterinary Care
Has a vetinarian seen the bird? Yes
What tests, cultures, X-rays, etc. were performed? Different vets
consider different tests to be a 'complete health screen', so be
specific about what lab work was done. (cbc, culture, gram stain,
chemistries, x-rays, SPE)
2 DNA tests for PBFD and HI HA testing
What were the tests and the results?
All tests positive
What was the Veterinarian's diagnosis?
Cracka has PBFD
Was treatment/medication prescribed?
None
Have you used herbs or remedies such as Echinacea, ACV, GSE, etc.,
how often and for what reasons:
Not yet
Were any OTC (over the counter) treatments used prior to a vet
visit: No
Has this bird been diagnosed with PDD? No
C. General Health
Normal droppings consist of three parts:
• solid feces of different colors depending on what the bird
is eating;
• clear urine; and
• white urates.
Droppings might be watery, slimy with mucus, well formed tubes,
dry / hard, black /scant, contain whole seeds or other food, foamy,
the urates or urine could also be colored.etc

Fruit and vegetables in the morning. (bok choi, pumpkin, chilli,
squash, carrot, beans, apple, nuts, corn, peas, pasta, rice, etc)
Whatever I am eating at night.
Pellets and seed are available at all times.
What percentage of the following foods does your bird actually eat?
pellets, vegetables, fruit, seed mix, nuts, sprouts, meat and eggs,

Pellets and seed, probably 30%, veggies and fruit 50% nuts 10% pasta
or rice 5%, treats and other 5%.
What kind of vegetables does your bird eat Carrots, beans, chilli,

pretty bird eclectus formula and hagen tropican also small parrot
mix seed.

pasta, spaghetti bol, mashed potato, spinach, meat, fish. Treats are
dried bananas, pop corn, dried paw paw.
How often do you allow junk food: chips, crackers, pasta, bread,
candy ice-cream, cake, cookies.
A little bit every day.
Do you feed any supplements, and if so what kind?
Calcium supplement, vitamin supplement
Do you administer supplements on food or in water?
Calcium on food and vitamins in water
What foods does your bird refuse to eat?
Nothing really!
What strategies have you used to improve the diet?
Cook more veggies in the morning

E. Environment
Was anything in the home changed prior to the first display of
symptoms? This could be a change of food, cage location, new bird

8 hours on weekdays he is alone

A few hours a day

loves to sit on me, run all over the bed, and loves to shower

sometimes
G. Cage and Toys
Is the cage covered at night. yes
Does your bird sleep in a different cage: no
What type of perches are in the cage and their positions:
eucalyptus branches (I live in Australia) at bottom of cage and
middle and rope perches at top. He sleeps on a rough perch (I think
it is made of plaster)
What is used in the bottom of the cage (newspaper, corn cob, etc.)
and can the bird reach it:
newspaper, he can not touch it, there is a grill over it.
If toys are provided, what are the birds preferences:
plastic chewy toys that are his favourite.
Is the bird passive or aggressive to the toys, eg: plays with or
destroys them ?
plays with them but does not destroy them, he does chew off some
breakable bits.
Are toys rotated or are the same ones left in the cage all the time:
rotated once a month.
H. Lighting
What type of lighting is used (such as incandescent or full

The vitamins are an Australian brand, Dr Rob Marshall "Duofo"
and "Ilford NF"

What are the major products you use for general housecleaning. eg:
Clorox, Windex, types of soaps, floor products/waxes etc:
household disinfectand (pineoclean) bleach, windex, Jiff
Are there carpets in the house and what chemicals are used for
cleaning them:
tiles downstairs, carpet upstairs (no chemicals)
What disinfectants are used to clean the birds cage: Are scented
candles, strong perfumes, or Teflon pots and pans used:
pine o clean to clean cage, no candles, Teflon etc.
What type of aerosol sprays are used, eg: room deodorizers, hair
sprays, pesticides,
etc: none around the bird
Are there any smokers in the household, and do they handle the
birds: no
Are fabric softeners used in cage coverings: What type of
ventilation (such as windows, vents, fans, etc.) is used when
questionable products are used, or painting or heavy cleaning is
done:
no fabric softener on cage coverings, windows often open.
Does the bird sneeze or pluck after the vacuum has been used? Is the
home heating electric, gas, oil, radiant or forced air: no
What is the temperature in the house, and is it constant or varied:
varies, but normally around 22 degrees celcius
What houseplants can the bird reach: none
Are pest exterminators used: no
